Start with the completion deadline, not the discount
A request is batch-eligible only when its result can arrive after the provider's batch window. Backfills, offline evaluation, document enrichment, and nightly classification can qualify. Customer chat, synchronous tool calls, and safety decisions in a live workflow generally cannot.
The formula keeps live traffic at standard pricing
The baseline charges every request at your standard input and output rates. The blended case applies the batch rates only to the eligible share. If entered batch rates cost more, the calculator reports zero savings instead of presenting a negative value as a benefit.
Validate the operational contract
- Confirm the provider's current batch pricing and supported models.
- Set an explicit completion deadline and fallback for missed work.
- Keep idempotency keys so a retry cannot create duplicate side effects.
- Compare completed batch usage with the estimate before expanding the share.
Use savings as a routing decision, not a promise
